From whom did you first hear about the sisterhood?
PEO was introduced to me by my boss at the time, Kelly! I was serving as a resident assistant and my supervisor at the time (and one of my biggest mentors) brought me to a social. She was a legacy PEO member as her mom was a PEO, as well. As a second-year college student, I quickly clung to PEO as the support network I needed. The ladies become second moms and took me in as their own. Later, once my mentor had moved away, I stayed incredibly involved with the chapter.
How did you meet other sisters or maybe you already knew people or family members who were sisters?
I’m a first-generation PEO! I had never heard of the sisterhood prior to being introduced. However, I see how far the sisterhood stretches now!
How long between your first introduction until you were invited?
I was initiated pretty quickly upon meeting some sisters. Though I didn’t know much about PEO, I had faith in the person who had introduced me and knew this organization is where I needed to be.
How long have you been a PEO?
I became a PEO in November of 2017.
Do you have a special memory of your PEO years?
Oh goodness, yes! A few highlights:
- When I was sworn in as president
- My first holiday party with the chapter where my now husband met my sisters
- My first time serving as an officer for an initiation
- The many times my sisters have been there for me – my sister’s funeral, my wedding, when my husband was in the hospital, etc.
Have you introduced others to PEO?
Yes! A special PEO moment for me is that almost all of my bridesmaids are PEO sisters (and I’m working on the last couple).
I am so thankful for the opportunities and connections it has provided me. Not only do I get to work towards something large than myself (the philanthropies,) I know I have a support system that will follow me and my family forever. PEO has provided me with such professional development and networking opportunities, as well.
